Performing arts series ‘GLEE’ is the immensely in vogue, record setting, and award-winning musical drama series presently airing on the Tuesday night time-slot. The program is the splendid collaboration of melody, drollery and tension set adjacent to the setting of a Middle Western high school in Ohio. It highlights the mission for distinction of the high school’s singing club, NEW DIRECTIONS, as the constituent performers sing and hustle their way through numerous symphonic productions in each show. The program also centers on the tension, turbulence and merriment of that special period of their history for this brilliant but somewhat gawky group of artists.
The concept was imagined by the trinity of Ryan Murphy, Brad Falchuk and Ian Brennan who originally conceptualized of the idea as a blockbuster movie. Unable to profitably shop the premise to any of the most influential studios, the movie playbook was re-worked as a television program and in this plan, was picked up by the Fox Network in less than a few hours of their review.
Devotees of the show are satisfied to be branded with the stamp of “Gleek”, a mishmash of ‘Glee’ and ‘geek’. Fox has signed off on returning the musical stars from NEW DIRECTIONS back for the 2011 – 2012 term.
Initial students are composed of self-proclaimed star Rachel, the singing quarterback Finn, the songster-fashionista Kurt, the certified prima dona Mercedes, the disabled but musically inclined Artie, the harmonizing phenom Tina, the music agitator Puck, the cheering trio Quinn, Brittany, and Santana, and hoofer extraordinaire Mike. The bunch later bids welcome singing head-turner Sam, who takes the place of Finn as Quinn’s flame. They are offered direction through contests and high school by their dauntless and courageous director, Will Schuester.
